Monroe House

The large, three-section window in the living room lets in western light and is shaded with an attractive yellow awning.  There are also awnings on the kitchen and SW small bedroom windows.

The floors are original fir except for the bedroom in the SW corner of the house which has carpet (see photo to the left).

There are ceiling fans with light kits installed throughout the house which are very helpful in circulating the air and managing utility expense.

Monroe House maintains many of the original features when built about 100 years ago.  These photos illustrate the care and maintenance the house has received over the years.

Folding double door

This unique double door allows separation from the living room and the old parlor.  The parlor can be used as a bedroom, but more residents use it as a TV or workout room.  The front door is in the parlor.

Monroe House has a large kitchen with plenty of room for a table and chairs. The kitchen features a stainless steel sink with garbage disposal and spray nozzle, dishwasher, gas stove, built-in microwave, and side by side refrigerator with ice maker & chilled, filtered water.  Note the decorative Tiffany light over the sink, which makes a great night light!

There is a Maytag full-size washer and dryer conveniently located in the main hallway.

Beautiful custom stained glass transitions are installed over several doorways.


There is one full bath with shower and tub and a half bath with large vanity and toilet.  Both bathrooms have windows.  The main bathroom features ceramic tiled tub enclosure and ceramic floor.  Note the tub has several shampoo/soap holders.  There are also several chrome towel bars and three separate medicine cabinets which allow each resident a private area for their toiletries.  The showerhead is mounted on an extended chrome pipe which is convenient for tall persons.

Rear Entry

On the upper level, outside the kitchen, is a clothes rack for hanging parkas, etc.  This area also serves as access to the south bedroom and south bathroom.

Monroe House has access from the parking lot.

The back door opens to a vestibule which has a stairway to the basement and one to the kitchen.  the basement is an ideal storage room for bicycles, luggage, hobbies and crafts, etc. It is not suitable for human habitation, but is lighted and heated.

Basement Furnace Room

There is a fairly new, 90%+ efficiency Amana furnace and two 40 gallon hot water heaters.  This is plenty of hot water to run the appliances and serve the needs of all the residents.
